Extra tip: For dogs with diarrhoea, a total food withdrawal for 24–48 hours may help reset the digestive system. During this time, always provide fresh water. This fasting allows the gut to rest, supports the intestinal lining, and may help prevent food allergies by reducing the passage of undigested proteins into the bloodstream.
Fasting should not be used in puppies, young, or obese dogs, as it may negatively affect their metabolic state. If diarrhoea lasts more than two days or signs of dehydration (fatigue, sunken eyes, low skin elasticity) are present, veterinary care is essential.
