Much is written about what not to feed dogs from the Christmas table, but this year, let’s talk about what you can share!
There’s nothing wrong with offering your dog a few old-fashioned scraps, as long as you reduce their regular meal accordingly. A small side plate of Christmas goodness can be just right, after all, they’re family too!
Here are some festive favourites your dog can safely enjoy:
- Cooked veggies – red and yellow peppers, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, sweet potato, carrots, butternut squash or a spoonful of apple sauce
- Sliced cooked meats and juices with minimal seasoning
- A mini portion of goat’s cheese
- Handful of berries
- A dollop of plain yoghurt for dessert
Feeling a little crafty?
Simmer your leftover bones with a splash of apple cider vinegar for a few hours to create a nourishing bone broth. Add vegetable peelings like carrot, potato or parsnip for extra nourishment and flavour, then strain and discard the solids, leaving a warm, comforting broth your dog will love.
A gentle reminder: if your dog has a medical condition or specific dietary needs, always check with your vet before introducing new foods.
